Lara Zankoul is a Lebanese fine art photographer known for her surreal, dreamlike imagery that explores human emotion and identity. Her work blends fantasy and reality through meticulously staged scenes rich in symbolism. With a background in economics and a self-taught approach to photography, Zankoul has exhibited internationally and developed a distinctive, introspective visual language.
In her acclaimed series The Unseen, Zankoul constructs water-filled rooms to explore the tension between what we show to the world and what we keep hidden beneath the surface. The images feature subjects immersed in dual environments—above water, a composed reality; below, a surreal landscape revealing emotional complexity. Using real sets and natural light, she avoids digital manipulation, lending the work a tactile and immersive quality. The series invites viewers to pause and reflect on their own inner lives, encouraging a deeper connection with the often unseen layers of emotion and experience that shape us.
