Dimitris Makrygiannakis currently works as a senior physician in Rheumatology at Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm. In 2010, he became interested in artistic photography. Dimitris began his photographic journey in street photography, but has today broadened his interest to capturing any subject that he feels has artistic value.
Dimitris is a member of the of the international collective “Burn My Eye”. In 2013 he won the prestigious ”Invisible Photographer Asia” competition, one of the largest street photography competitions in Asia. In 2024, Dimitris became the first amateur photographer to receive the Lars Tunbjörk Prize. He has participated in several exhibitions worldwide, lectured at festivals and led workshops in street photography. Recently he also published his first book, ”Rodina”. In the current exhibition, Dimitris shares glimpses of a dystopian reality that challenges the viewer to reflect on modern times and the current world situation.
